There is an urgent need for Wisconsin's lawmakers to allocate funds for FoodShare, Wisconsin's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Federal changes adopted last summer shifted a significant amount of SNAP administrative costs to states. If Wisconsin lawmakers do not take action to allocate funds, FoodShare access for families, children, seniors, and others in Wisconsin could be at risk, and the state could face financial penalties.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed Assembly Bill 180 with bipartisan support on February 20. The bill limits certain types of food that can be purchased with SNAP/FoodShare benefits, and an amendment to the bill also takes the important step of allocating $69 million to help Wisconsin cover the increased program costs required because of the federal changes.
We need your help to urge your State Senator to vote in support for the amended AB 180, which will allocate critically needed funds for the FoodShare program.
